One of the aims of the Literary Bonds Project is to encourage and stimulate new studies on ‘improving’ societies locally and internationally by facilitating access to resources. In addition, we hope to encourage the public to engage with the archival resources available in their own communities.
The Project Team continues to add new magazines as our research develops — the evidence keeps growing! You can keep up to date with us by having a look at the sidebar on the right-hand side of your screen called ‘Recently Added Titles‘, which appears on every page.
While we continue to add new magazines, in the process, we are always looking for ways to amend and enhance the information provided for the entries on this website. This is where you can help!
If you know of any mutual improvement or literary society magazines in your local library, special collections or archives similar to those listed on this website but which don’t appear here, please do get in touch.
We would love to hear how and in what ways you are using this website. Are you a member of a reading or writing group in your community? Are you researching your family history or interested in local history? Are you an academic investigating historic reading groups and/or reading and writing practices in the nineteenth century? Let us know!
We’d also like to know what information about these magazines you’d like to see on our website that isn’t already discussed.
Finally, if you would like a member of the Project Team to come and speak with your local club or association, please fill out the form below and we’ll get back to you to straight away.
We look forward to hearing from you!
